Valve's Steam platform was created in 2003 and has been steadily growing in popularity over the years, becoming the dominant marketplace for PC gaming. However, in the last two years, its growth has really taken off. Steam broke its previous records and yesterday, Sunday, October 23, reached a total of 30,012,957 users online simultaneously.

Just 12 years after its launch in 2003, Steam set a world record with the number of users connected simultaneously reaching 10 million people.
In 2017, Steam broke its own record by gaining 14 million new users in just two years.
In March 2020, that number reached 20 million. The COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in most countries began in March, and people were spending a lot of time online . At that point, they realized that they could play really good video games on Steam, often at very low prices .
This year the platform reached 28 million users, more than the population of countries like Australia and Taiwan. Now, at the end of October, we've reached the record 30 million – to be exact, last Sunday night 30,032,005 users logged in.

Keep in mind that this is not the number of people playing at any one time, but the number of people logged into the platform, a feat often achieved simply by turning on your computer.
