This reminder follows another warning issued last month that this version of Windows is approaching its retirement date of December 13, 2022.
Microsoft said in an update on the Windows health that systems running Windows 10 21H1 (also known as the May 2021 Update) will no longer receive security updates.
Support for Windows 8.1 will also end on January 10, 2023, and security updates will no longer be provided. Additionally, Windows 8.1 will not provide Extended Security Update (ESU) support.
Customers using them should upgrade to the latest version as soon as possible to avoid exposing their systems to attacks that exploit unpatched vulnerabilities .
"The December 2022 security update, released on December 13, is the last available update for these versions. After this date, devices running these versions will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protections against the latest security threats," Microsoft explained.
"Customers who contact Microsoft Support after this date will be prompted to update device to the latest version of Windows 10 or Windows 11 to continue being supported," the company says in a separate support document.
