Google teased the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro back at I/O in May 2022, even though their launch was months away. It gave us a glimpse of their design and confirmed that the devices would be powered by the “next-gen” Tensor 2 chip. While the company didn’t reveal any specs, rumors have given us a good idea of what to expect from the company’s flagship smartphones for 2022. Now, a new leak reveals the alleged release date of the new Pixels.

According to “very reliable sources” from Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech, pre-orders for the Pixel 7 series could start as early as October 6, likely right after the press event. The phones will officially hit retail a week later, on October 13. Google tends to announce new Pixel phones in early October and start accepting pre-orders for them soon after, so the date seems reasonable. Last year’s Pixel 6 series was announced on October 19, and pre-orders began on the same day. In addition to the Pixel 7, Google could announce the Pixel Watch at the same event.

The release date is two months away, and there's always the chance that Google could change it at the last minute. Prosser's leaks don't always turn out to be true, so we'll have to wait and see if they turn out to be true.

Aside from the release date and price, little is known about the Pixel 7 series. Recent leaks suggest that the phones will continue to feature the same 50MP Samsung primary shooter on the back. The front-facing camera looks set to get an upgrade, with Google moving to an 11MP Samsung JN1 shooter across the range. The newer sensor could even allow the company to offer face unlock on the new Pixels.
