Twitter is reportedly planning to add a number of features to give users more control over their follower lists and who can see their posts and likes. One of the most notable features is the option to archive old tweets so users can protect their online identity and reputation. In addition, Twitter is reportedly working on another tool to allow users to remove followers from their list instead of just offering the option to block them. There is no timeline for these updates, and Twitter has not shared any further details so far.

According to Bloomberg, the new features are aimed at making Twitter users “more comfortable” while interacting and sharing posts on the social network. The report adds that the new tools have been developed as part of the “social privacy” initiative to allow users to manage their reputation and identity on the platform. The company’s internal research has shown that users do not understand basic privacy issues, such as whether their account is publicly visible. “When social privacy needs are not met, people limit their expression of character. They don’t have many conversations,” Svetlana Pimkina, a human resources researcher at the San Francisco-based company, told the publication.

In terms of features, “Archived Tweets” will allow users to hide old tweets after a certain period of time. Twitter is also testing a number of timing options, including hiding posts after 30, 60, and 90 days, or hiding tweets after a full year. Another feature in the works includes “Hide tweets” that you liked from a group of people or from all your followers. Twitter previously introduced “Fleets stories” that let users share opinions in the form of ephemeral messages. Twitter retired Fleets last month. Other rumored features include “Leaving conversations” and “Unfollowing followers.” It’s unclear whether the new tool (if it ever launches) will be for everyone or reserved for Twitter’s paid subscribers.
