Sony Interactive Entertainment will remove Cyberpunk 2077 — the latest blockbuster game from developer CD Projekt Red — from PlayStation “until further notice,” the company said in a statement on its official website. It is also offering a full refund to anyone who purchased the game using the PlayStation Store.
“Sony Interactive Entertainment strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction , so we will begin offering full refunds to all players who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 through the PlayStation Store,” the statement reads. “SIE will also remove Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store until further notice.”
After its release, many players reported numerous bugs and issues with Cyberpunk 2077, especially on the older, base PS4 console. Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red offered refunds to those who purchased the game on console, but they were directed to retailers or digital stores where the game was purchased.
“[If] you are not satisfied with the game on your console and do not want to wait for updates, you can choose to return it.”
However, many consumers had difficulty getting money back, either through stores like GameStop or digital stores like the PlayStation Store, which likely led Sony to make it clear that it would offer a full refund.
Cyberpunk 2077 was released earlier this month after years of anticipation, offering a highly complex game. Although players quickly began reporting bugs and other issues, especially on the PS4 and Xbox One, the game has already broken all records.
CD Projekt Red said Monday that the first round of updates to address bugs and other issues has already been released, with more to come over the next seven days. The company also said it plans to release two major patches , one in January and one in February, to “fix the most prominent issues players are experiencing on last-gen consoles .”
