At the Huawei Developer Day conference, which took place in 2020, the Chinese technology company presented the successor to the Mate series of foldable devices, the Huawei Mate Xs.
However, it was not the only major announcement of the conference.
Huawei CEO Richard Yu also talked about the company's alternative to Google 's Play Store , which is called AppGallery.
According to the company's official data, AppGallery serves over 600 million Huawei devices in over 160 countries. In addition, AppGallery now offers over 1700 Quick Apps (i.e. apps that can be used without installation).
The majority of the CEO's speech was mainly about developers, however the thing that caused the biggest impression was when Richard Yu stated that the company's app store is the third largest in the world.
This information may be valid for China, as Huawei occupies a fairly large market share in the country, however it is somewhat hard to believe that AppGallery is also one of the leading app stores in the entire world.
As TechRadar, Huawei's AppGallery is not particularly popular in the UK, as it lacks several popular apps, such as WhatsApp, Netflix, Facebook Messenger and many more.
This statement comes just days after Huawei announced a partnership with Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi to create a platform that will allow developers worldwide to simultaneously upload apps to their respective app stores.
Sure, however, it was not Huawei's initiative to focus on its AppStore, as the tech giant was forced to discontinue Google Play services from its devices, as a result of the ban imposed on it by the US.
Huawei is trying to survive without Google. In addition to the App Store, the tech giant is also working on HarmonyOS, an alternative to Android.
