It's become a habit for Microsoft to have problems with every major Windows update. The opposite would be an unlikely scenario. So now Microsoft is stopping the manual update of version 1809 until it resolves the justified complaints of its customers.
Some users who upgraded to the new Windows 10 (version 1809) have discovered a critical bug that causes unexpected removal of personal files during the upgrade, such as documents and pictures.
It seems that the number of users who lost their files is constantly increasing, as more and more people are reporting the same problem, and so Microsoft finally withdrew the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
Today, Microsoft announced in a support document that the Windows 10 October 2018 Update has been stopped and you can no longer manually download the update.
Microsoft explains that the company is investigating the reports and that the update will be re-released when a new patch is installed to address the critical bug!!!. Classic Microsoft.
It states in its related announcement: “We have paused the deployment of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users losing some files after the update. We will update you again when we resume the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.”
If you're having issues after installing the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, you can roll back to the previous update by going to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery, and of course, if you haven't deleted the old installation files. However, at the moment, if you're one of the "lucky" ones and have lost your files, there's no way to recover that lost data, even by going back to a previous version.
Anyway, for the record, in our update we didn't lose any documents. Everything is in its place. What about you?
