Google has issued an urgent update to fix a critical vulnerability in its Chrome browser. The flaw allows hackers to execute arbitrary code within the browser. This means attackers could view your sensitive data or even edit and delete it.
Hackers are always looking to gain access to sensitive information, such as banking details or a secret that allows them to blackmail people. The flaw was discovered by the Centre for Internet Security, which reports:
“A vulnerability has been identified in Google Chrome that could allow arbitrary code execution. Google Chrome is a web browser used to access the Internet. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code within the browser.”
Depending on the permissions associated with the application, an attacker could install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.
Google has now released a fix for the bug that will be rolling out to Mac, Linux , and Windows in the coming weeks. To stay safe from the bugs, you should avoid visiting websites that seem overly fancy or untrustworthy, and make sure you don't click on links unless you know the source.
