Foxit Software , the company behind the popular PDF reader app Foxit , has announced that it has been hacked . Hackers managed to breach the company's servers and gain access to customer information .
The incident was first reported by a Foxit customer, who released a copy of the emailthe company sent to all users affected by the breach. In the email, Foxit asked users to change their passwords.
Additionally, the email informed users that the breach affected site and gave hackers access to information stored in the "My Account" section.
Through Foxit accounts, users can access trial software, download products, and more.
The data that hackers gained access to is: email addresses, passwords, real names, phone numbers, company names and IP addresses from which users logged into accounts .
It is not known whether Foxit has protected customer passwords through the "hashing and salting" process.
If passwords were available in plain text, attackers could use them to gain access to user accounts on other sites. It is known that many people use the same passwords on different accounts.
There is no information about when the attack. It may be recent but it could have happened years ago. The only thing that is certain is that it was discovered recently.
