Hackers gained access to NASA networks via Raspberry Pi

NASAAccording to research, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which has achieved significant things in the field of space technology, is facing some cybersecurity .

In April 2018, the research center suffered a major data. Following this incident, network investigations were conducted. It was found that a Raspberry Pi was connected to the JPL network (without permission to connect) and was used by hackers to carry out the attack.

The attackers managed to steal 500 megabytes of data, which came from one of the lab's largest missions. In addition, the hackers used the Raspberry Pi to penetrate even deeper into the JPL network

This gave them access to many important missions, such as NASA's Deep Space Network. This is the network of spacecraft communication facilities. After the attack, security teams for important programs, such as the Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the International Space Station, decided to disconnect from the research center's network to protect their data.

The researchers also discovered other security issues, such as reduced visibility of devicesconnected to the research center's network. Finally, it was found that the practices used by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to deal with various incidents did not follow NASA recommendations.

The Office of Inspector General proposed solutions to address all of the issues at JPL. NASA agreed with all of the proposed solutions, but rejected one. This solution proposed establishing a formal threat identification process that would help find vulnerabilitiesbefore they cause a problem.

However, the investigation into the safety issues at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is not yet complete.
