Huawei's exclusion from Android (according to a decision by Google) has troubled the Chinese company. For this reason, it is heard that Huawei is planning its own operating system, which will replace Android on its devices.
Huawei device owners will not be able to use Google services, such as the Play Store, YouTube, Gmail , and so on. Additionally, Huawei and Honor smartphones will not receive future Android updates.
This will have major implications for the company, as Huawei has millions of users around the world. All of them will be forced to be blocked from Google. Apparently, the only place where the difference won't be so noticeable is in China, where Google is already banned.
For this reason, Huawei wants to create its own operating system so that its customers do not face problems.
Of course, the exclusion of Huawei will also have repercussions for Google, as it will lose a large number of users.
What do we know about Huawei's new operating system?
Huawei has been rumored to be working on its own operating system since 2012. Richard Yu, a senior executive at the company, has provided some information. According to him, the new operating system will include a “future-oriented microkernel.” A possible release date is either fall 2019 or spring 2020.
The new operating system is not only intended for smartphones, but also for other Huawei devices, such as tablets, televisions, cars, smart wearables and even computers.
But even if it does all of this, the problem remains. What will happen to all those Google services that users have been using for so many years and will now stop using?
Is it possible to immediately launch the new operating system?
The Independent newspaper, in a report , states that the new operating system is codenamed "Project Z" and is currently far from reality.
According to the report, Huawei will have to rely on third-party app developers in order to create an app ecosystem for its operating system.
Applications
On the other hand, Yu says that Huawei's new operating system will support web and Android apps, so that users will not have difficulty transitioning to the new platform.
However, it's not just Android app support that the company needs to worry about. What about many popular services like Netflix, Amazon, Snapchat, Tinder, Facebook, Uber, Discord, etc.?
The secret app store
In addition to the app store, which the company has in China, it has also released an application called App Gallery, which includes applications for its smartphones outside of China.
Huawei has suggested that many developers bring their Android apps to the App Gallery. Huawei, in turn, will help them become known in China, the world's largest smartphone market.
With the new app store, Huawei is planning to expand into Europe. Essentially, it is trying to compete with the Play Store. We can only wait and see if it will succeed.
It's not unlikely that it will be able to create an international app store. However, it probably won't be an easy task after being blocked by Google.
The problems Huawei is facing right now are many. All we can do is wait and see if it will finally manage to release its own operating system and maintain its market share.
