Are you shopping online from India? Hackers are waiting around the corner!

Hackers have turned their attention to a country with over 450 million smartphone and over 550 million Internet users, India.

The country has 366 million internet subscribers in urban areas and 194 million in rural areas, according to the latest report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

According to Sophos senior security consultant John Shier, organizations are struggling to combat phishing and other attacks in India.

"Most people don't believe that computer-based training (CBT) is effective and are looking for ways to improve their defenses against users falling victim to hackers," Shier said in a statement.

A KPMG report revealed that nearly 86% of consumers in India are concerned about their conversations being intercepted or their messages being stolen or misused through their devices.

About 87% of consumers are concerned that retailers will misuse or unnecessarily distribute their information.

According to Gauri Bajaj, Head of Cybersecurity (APAC) at Tata Communications, cybersecurity adoption remains a key challenge.

Phones and wearable devices like smartwatches are the next frontier for cybersecurity.

Having an IT security team , but a strong culture around security is the next step in raising security awareness, experts say.

Be careful about clicking on emails from unknown sources or deals that seem too real.

Cybercriminals use spam to lure victims to fake websites. Businesses should train employees on how to spot a phishing scam.
