Facebook: New AI-based tool blocks revenge porn

Facebook is expanding its use of artificial intelligence to moderate content uploaded to its platform to ensure that privacy policies and user values are not violated.

The company reveals the use of a new artificial intelligence tool that is capable of proactively detecting and flagging revenge porn.

Revenge porn can be described as someone's private photos and videos posted without their consent. It has been criminalized in some states and is obviously not allowed on social media platforms.

Facebook's AI tool will ensure that no pornographic videos or photos make it through Facebook and Instagram. Unlike current filters, this tool will be able to detect "near-nude" content. All content detected by the tool will be sent for review by a human moderator.

Facebook and Instagram should report revenge porn. “Often victims fear punishment, so they don’t report inappropriate content or ignore it completely,” said Facebook’s head of safety, Antigone Davis.

The new tool will automate the process of reporting content, sending it to human moderators for review before anyone even reports it.

We do not yet have more details regarding the AI tool and which indicators it will flag a photo or a video as revenge porn.
