It has been said a few times in the past that there is an interface on the Google Home Hub that looks a lot like the Chrome browser.
It also behaves like a cut down version of Chrome as well.
A number of sites have reported that the browser appears when completing a voice search for something that will return a detailed information result, such as Wikipedia. Once this appears, you have a scrollable version of Chrome open, which will allow (without directly entering the URL) navigation to other sites if the links exist on the Wikipedia.
It's reported by a reader on the team at 9to5Google that the browser is presenting itself as Chrome 70 on Android, which seems to go - at least partially - against the information Google released saying it's coming from the Cast platform.
Unfortunately at this stage there is no way to enter text and there is no copy/paste capability. Connecting a keyboard doesn't help much as it still doesn't work.
Regardless of the current state of the browser on the Home Hub, it shows that there is potential for increased functionality on the Home Hub, which bodes well for its future.
Now whether Google wants the feature to be user-friendly or not is another matter. Given the focus on the Home Hub so far, we expect the answer to be “no,” but if anything changes we’ll let you know.
