Spotify today announced a major step it will take in the near future. The new feature will allow indie artists to upload their tracks directly to the Spotify service. The new feature is gradually being added to all artist accounts, starting today as an invite-only beta version.

Through dashboard , artists will be able to see statistics about their audience and the plays of their tracks.
Through the new Upload tool, old and new artists will be able to upload their tracks with just a few clicks. Afterwards, through a very user-friendly menu there will be a preview of how the artist's profile will look, as well as the function to edit the meta data of the tracks, if necessary.
Most importantly, even lesser-known uploaders will be able to get paid for their work. Through the same dashboard, the user to set the payment method they wish to be paid with as well as their details. This new option is free, and Spotify states that it will not keep a different percentage than that of more famous artists.
With this new Spotify feature, creators who list their tracks directly on Spotify, and not through a record label, are believed to have a significantly higher percentage of profit from each play.
Finally, the upload feature is currently only available in the US, and will require an invitation to join the program. A public version will be available in the coming months for anyone who might be interested.
