Microsoft and WhatsApp are reportedly working on a new version of the instant messaging app, and it is believed that the project is specifically prepared for the upcoming Andromeda mobile device.
Photos posted on Behance by a Microsoft designer give us a first look at what the new WhatsApp app for Windows 10 could look like, with the post revealing that the designer was supporting the team in porting the app from Silverlight to UWP.
In other words, the new WhatsApp app for Windows 10 could be supported by more types of devices and platforms, including mobile devices that aren't necessarily phones.
This category probably includes Andromeda, a project that Microsoft is reportedly working on that could bring us a new type of device with a dual-screen design, combining mobile, tablet, and laptop capabilities and features.
According to Behance, the new WhatsApp app for Windows 10 will be built in such a way that it can incorporate the latest features supported by the operating system, including Fluent Design.
“We want users to bring their app to the Windows 10 desktop by integrating unique Windows 10 features, such as Ink and Fluent Design. The project had a successful outcome that led to WhatsApp’s collaboration with Microsoft, and we undoubtedly gained significant things from the WhatsApp team,” the Microsoft designer reportedly said.
Microsoft and WhatsApp working together on a Windows 10 is nothing new, as Microsoft has adopted a similar strategy with other companies in the past, including WhatsApp's parent company Facebook. Facebook's Windows 10 app was designed in collaboration with Microsoft, and from the looks of it, WhatsApp UWP could be a continuation of that project.
