Facebook: openly admitted that it monitors your Messenger

MessengerEarlier this week, in an interview with Vox, Mark Zuckerberg was asked to answer some tough questions. He ended up talking about how Facebook tracks users' messages sent through the Messenger app.

This raised some obvious questions about Facebook's data policies regarding Messenger. The answers provided clarify a few things.

The company said it scans all of its users' Messenger conversations to curb abuse on the social network. However, the company does not use this personal data for advertising purposes.

According to Facebook's content policies, all content must be treated the same. So, all messages must be scanned and automated tools must be used to flag a message or image for review.

Explaining further, the company said that it has to scan the various links as well as eliminate malware. In addition, by scanning images, it aims to detect and flag instances of child pornography.

Following the recent revelations, Facebook has also updated its privacy policy. The new policy attempts to explain data usage in a more transparent manner.

“We’re explaining the services we offer in a language that’s more user-friendly,” an official blog post says. It also talks about a feedback process that will allow you to share your thoughts on the new changes.

Furthermore, it has also been made clear that the Instagram and Messenger apps follow the same policy rules regarding data and content review.
