Android's chief security officer, David Kleidermacher, said in an interview today that the operating system , which is developed for a wide range of devices, is now as secure as Apple's iOS.
According to the “Android Security 2017 Year In Review” report recently published by Google, Android security has matured significantly in recent years and the company is constantly striving to develop new ways to protect users against all kinds of threats.
As revealed by David Kleidermacher, Google's head of security for Android, Google Play, and Chrome OS, the team behind Android is working hard to make its Linux-based operating system as secure as the competition.
Google wants to make Android famous for its security, Kleidermacher said, and for this reason it tries to immediately address any vulnerabilities that appear from time to time, which are a blow to the overall image of Android as an operating system.

The report claims that Google has managed to improve Android security over the past year, minimizing the number of potentially harmful applications (PHAs) on both Android devices and the Google Play Store, limiting the exploitation of vulnerabilities through faster security updates and improved security checks.
“In 2017, these protections evolved into Google Play Protect, which has emerged as a means to comprehensively protect Android security. And while the core features of Google Play Protect have been part of Android for years, we’ve added several features and functionalities to identify and respond to mobile threats faster and more targetedly,” the report states.
