Windows 10: One of the reasons Microsoft insists developers add their apps and games to the Windows 10 Microsoft Store is to simultaneously target more than one platform including PCs, mobile phones, Xbox, and HoloLens.
The benefits of this tactic are that Microsoft gains greater control over titles, a larger share of sales, and guaranteed security for users. It should be noted that the Microsoft Store now prevents piracy, which was a serious issue for Microsoft in the past.
To date, the CODEX team has managed to bypass not one, not two, but five different DRM layers and finally crack the game Zoo Tycoon Ultimate Animal Collection. MSStore, UWP, EAppX, XBLive, and Arxan have all been hacked for this purpose.
While the game itself may not be one of your favorites, it is the beginning of the largest series of broken UWP games.
The funny thing about this is that Arxan had previously emphasized that cracking titles protected by their system was impossible.
“Arxan has reverse-engineering protection, key and data protection to secure servers, and game logic hardening to avoid any breach.”
Microsoft has yet to comment on the matter, but it will be interesting to see how the company plans to address the issue of piracy that is spreading to its Microsoft-controlled store. The company is working hard to bring more top titles to the Store, and people close to the matter said the company was also planning some huge acquisitions, including Electronic Arts.
