Microsoft: Is it removing passwords from Windows 10?

Microsoft is one of the largest companies that considers passwords obsolete, wanting to offer a more secure means of authentication in Windows 10 .

With the latest Insider preview build – build 17093 – Microsoft is testing a new feature that essentially makes Windows 10 a password-free operating system.

It is currently available to users in the Fast ring and only for those running Windows 10 S. This system is based on the Authenticator app available on Android and iOS.Windows 10

With the Authenticator app on your mobile device, you can authorize or block any request while according to Microsoft, passwords will be completely removed from the operating system.

"With the changes in this build, your Windows 10 S PC will automatically make your life easier. You'll notice that if you have Windows Hello installed, you won't be able to authenticate with a password," a company spokesperson said.

To enable this feature, you must configure Windows Hello and then the Authenticator app on your mobile phone, so passwords will no longer be useful to you.

In case you're wondering why Microsoft has only released the new feature to Windows 10 S users, it's because the new feature needs to be thoroughly tested before it's officially released. First, the company needs to gather feedback from a limited number of users, and depending on how things go, it will be decided whether to release it officially.
