Microsoft upgrades Skype and Outlook for Android

Microsoft has released updates for two different Android apps, as the company is committed to providing its users with full app functionality regardless of the platform they choose.

Specifically, Skype and Outlook receive updates that provide not only fixes and security improvements but also new features.

Starting with Skype, last year, Microsoft overhauled the app to promote it from a VoIP client to an instant messenger, adding not only a new look but also a bunch of features that were previously unavailable on mobile devices. Since then, the company has been trying to improve the Skype experience on both Android and iOS, and the new version largely succeeds.Microsoft

Now in version 8.15.0.4, Skype for Android features improved audio controls that allow users to quickly switch between a headset, speakerphone, wired, or Bluetooth devices during a call. This is definitely a useful feature that gives users more control over their calls within the call UI.

Outlook, on the other hand, is getting version 2.2.102, and the most significant change in this version is a sidebar that provides quick access to all accounts and folders.

At this point, Outlook is one of the best email clients for mobile devices on both Android and iOS, since Microsoft acquired Accompli, the company that developed the app.

The acquisition was part of Microsoft's commitment to mobile apps, and since then the company has been aggressively investing in both Android and iOS, especially given the demise of its own Windows 10 Mobile platform. The company has emphasized that it wants users to benefit from full functionality regardless of platform, which is why updates are being released at such a rapid pace.
