Microsoft Edge is one of the apps that Redmond is introducing to iOS , and since it is a new addition, the browser is still receiving several updates.
The recent update of Microsoft Edge on iOS presents a bundle of significant improvements including dark mode. The new theme can be enabled from the settings screen, so you can try it if you want to get rid of the light mode.
Microsoft also says it specifically focused on optimizing battery usage, as several testers have complained that Edge on iOS is draining the battery and causing the iPhone to overheat.
«Some of you told us that your phone gets warm or somehow consumes more battery when you use Edge. So we tried to make some optimizations. Let us know if you continue to experience high battery consumption» emphasized the company spokesperson.
Note that the left and right navigation has improved considerably, a feature we already see on iPhones for Safari. Additionally, we have several bug fixes.
Finally, there is support for actions and activity extensions, such as sharing websites, saving locations in Notes, adding locations to Pocket, etc.
Microsoft Edge is available in a beta version for iPhones and you can't find it yet in the App Store. What you can do, however, is enroll in the beta program using TestFlight Apple.
Undoubtedly, Microsoft Edge should not yet become your everyday browser, given that it is still in beta version. It is still not clear when Microsoft Edge will reach the Apple Store officially, but surely that day is not far off.
