Since the iPhone 8 was released in late September, there have been several reports of poor quality iPhone 8 Plus batteries from customers in various countries, including the U.S. Units with swollen batteries that separate the display from the rest of the frame have already been confirmed.
The Korea Times recently reported that despite concerns about iPhone 8 units having bad batteries, tests cannot be conducted due to limited supply.
"Despite concerns about battery malfunctions, we are unable to conduct safety tests due to insufficient supply prior to launch," a company spokesperson said.
At the same time, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) says it plans to perform a series of tests on the iPhone 8 after the device's official local launch.
KATS is closely monitoring the case but is required by law to wait for the official release before starting tests.
Therefore, if the iPhone 8 presents the same problems in the Korean market as in other markets, the government could request a recall as local regulations state that companies must voluntarily recall their models if they encounter design and manufacturing defects that could physically harm users.
So far, no injuries have been reported by iPhone 8 users, but swollen batteries have the potential to cause serious health issues.
Apple , for its part, is examining the cases of defective devices, without having published any conclusions yet.
