The iPhone 8 probably hasn't impressed as much as Apple expected

Is it true that Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus aren't selling well? It depends on how you look at it.

Apple

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, via MacRumors, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus sales are lower than expected because many buyers are probably waiting for the long-awaited iPhone X.

Kuo essentially agrees with other estimates that iPhone 8 and 8 Plus sales are weak compared to previous models, but he believes the market is "overly negative" about the whole thing.

According to Kuo, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus sales were about half of those of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus or even the 6S and 6S Plus. But that's not so bad, as Apple estimates that half of its sales will come from the iPhone X — and that device won't be available until November 3.

Initial research into Apple Stores on launch day has shown that excitement surrounding the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus launch is nowhere near the usual level for a new iPhone. Kuo claims that the people who often camp out in front of Apple stores to get a new iPhone are “likely ardent Apple supporters and passionate users” and are the types of people who would want to buy the exciting new iPhone X, rather than the conventional iPhone 8.

However, it's not all rosy for Apple. There are reports that the iPhone X will be in extremely short supply at launch and even for weeks and months after. If the company can't manufacture enough iPhone Xs to meet the typically high demand during the holiday season, its sales will definitely take a hit.
