It seems that Microsoft is preparing to soon release Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, another new version of Windows 10.
“We know that power users have unique needs, and to help them operate effectively, we take the feedback we hear very seriously,” said Microsoft Partner Program Manager Klaus Diaconu in a company blog on August 10.
Windows 10 Pro for Workstations will have “unique support for server-grade hardware,” according to Microsoft, “and is designed to meet the demanding needs of mission-critical and workload-intensive computing.”.
This new version, which will be available with the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1703) in September, will include the ReFS file system, persistent memory, faster file sharing using SMB Direct, and support for new hardware configurations, including Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron processors with up to four CPUs and up to 6 terabytes of memory. Today, Windows 10 is limited to configurations with two CPUs and up to 2 TB of memory.
Microsoft's slide (embedded below) claims the existence of the new Workstation version.
Microsoft's initial Windows 10 lineup included three editions for IoT devices and six other editions of Windows 10: Home, Mobile, Pro, Enterprise, Education, and Mobile Enterprise. Microsoft later added Windows 10 S.
There are also two other subscription editions of Windows 10 for businesses, Windows 10 Enterprise E3 and E5.
