Windows 10 Photos App: Microsoft is working on another major update for the Photos app, and it seems the company is already experimenting with a series of new features inspired by Apple and Google products.
One of the app's new features will be smart search that relies on artificial intelligence to identify people and objects appearing in photos and then creates automatic groups that filter images according to faces, months, colors, and objects.
We have already encountered this function in photo apps from Apple and Google.
It should be noted that the Windows 10 Photos app is quite behind compared to rival companies as although it is trying to create an advanced product, unfortunately this is done slowly, usually through new operating system updates.
With the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the Photos app is betting big on AI. However, Microsoft is not planning to use cloud technology, but the process will be done locally, which means that an internet connection is not even required.
The Photos app will include a face detection feature that will automatically identify people and create a group for each person, a feature Apple has been offering to iPhone users since last year. The new feature will also create tags for things it detects in images.
Additionally, Microsoft will offer the option to block groups of people in photos and videos so that facial detection can be turned off, but the company expects the majority of users to have it enabled on their devices.
Smart search will be available to all users in September.
