Google has released the first version of its upcoming Google Chrome with an adblocker. Initially and for the entire testing period, it will be available in the Chrome Dev and Chrome Canary for Android.
Google recently announced that it was planning to integrate an adblocker into its Chrome browser. Google, which is an advertising company first and foremost, seems to be facing tough times caused by the growing popularity of ad blockers.
So the company had the idea to block the most annoying ads in Chrome by natively integrating an adblocker into the browser.
The company hopes this will slow or even reverse the use of third-party adblockers and simultaneously improve the acceptance rate of the ads it promotes on the Internet.
The adblocker will be integrated into desktop and mobile versions of the Chrome browser and will block pop-up ads, auto-playing video ads with sounds, and other annoying forms of advertising by default.
The first version of Chrome with a native adblocker was released to Chrome Dev and Canary test builds today. The feature appears to be evolving on the server side, as there is no new option in the browser itself.
You can see if you are using an adblocker with a click on Menu > Settings > Location Settings.
The adblocker is enabled by default and their description states that it “blocks ads from websites that tend to display annoying ads.”.
Google intends to block all ads on websites that display intrusive ads using its built-in advertising engine. This may include Google-sponsored ads if they appear on a website with a “bad reputation” that uses intrusive ads or displays them in an intrusive manner
The Coalition for Better Ads will determine which forms of advertising are intrusive. Google is a member of this group. You can check the group's website for examples of ads that are considered intrusive.
