There may still be a few months left until the official release of Android 8.0, but we already got a first look at some of the most interesting features and additions of the upcoming operating systemduring Google I/O that took place earlier this month. One of the new features that Google introduced during the conference is the so-called “Notification Dots,” which are small dots that will appear in apps when you have a notification.
If you don't want to wait until Android O is released to try out the new Notification Dots feature, you can add an unofficial version of the upcoming feature to your phone right now. How? This week, the first beta version of Nova Launcher 5.2 has arrived on Google Play.
Along with some minor fixes and performance improvements, the latest update adds customizable notification dots to the launcher. Nova Launcher's notification dots will match the color of the app icon they appear on, and you can decide where on the app icons they appear and at what size.
While this isn't an exact copy of the notification dots that will appear in Android O, if you want to try out the new feature, this might be the best way to do it, aside from downloading and installing the Android O beta. Unfortunately, the Android O is only available on select phones, while Nova Launcher can be installed on any device.
If you want to try the latest version of Nova Launcher, all you need to do is go to Google Play and check if the new update is available on your phone.
