Google has begun rolling out new, more powerful AI tools to its advertisers. The move comes after top brands reported to Google that they saw their ads being shown in propaganda videos on YouTube.
Advertisers rightly do not want to fund extremism, even unintentionally, and several of the companies withdrew their ads.
So Google has reportedly developed a new improved algorithm to combat such incidents. According to Bloomberg, the company is now using an upgraded form of machine learning to identify inappropriate content five times more often than it did before.
The new algorithm has reportedly been working for the past two weeks.
YouTube's vast video library is very difficult to review, at least by humans. So it was inevitable that some of the review tasks would have to be delegated to AI algorithms.
Google's General Manager of Business Development, Philipp Schindler, told Bloomberg that human eyes contributed to the labeling, but that they can't do everything.
“The problem cannot be solved by man and should not be solved by man.”
