Although many of you may be expecting the Chinese company to launch the OnePlus 4 next year, according to a new report, that may never happen.
In Chinese culture, the number 4 is considered unlucky, which could be one of the reasons OnePlus might avoid launching a smartphone with this number. Apparently, this means that the next flagship coming in 2017 will be called the OnePlus 5, thus skipping the OnePlus 4 name.
But that's not the only information we have about the upcoming OnePlus flagship. Apparently the Chinese company is planning to replace the phone's aluminum frame with a ceramic one.
Unfortunately, this might not be such a good idea considering that the Xiaomi Mi Mix is so prone to breakage. However, the resistance of the OnePlus 5's ceramic coating will depend on the manufacturing process and overall design, which is why the news is uncertain at least for now.
According to reports coming out of China, the company that supplies ceramic frames to the Xiaomi Mi Mix has confirmed that OnePlus is one of its new customers. That's why there's a strong possibility that the next OnePlus smartphone will feature a ceramic body.
Also, industry sources claim that metal frames are poor conductors for 5G signals, which is one reason why many mobile phone manufacturers have adopted ceramics. Even if 5G networks are not as widespread around the world, we are not far from it.
The OnePlus 5 may not be the company's first ceramic smartphone, as that title belongs to the OnePlus X, which was launched last year.
In terms of specs, the OnePlus 5 is sure to ship with Android Nougat, but it could retain the 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED display.
Other than that, nothing is really certain about the OnePlus 5, so let's not make any further assumptions until we get more information from multiple sources.
