The new SparkyLinux 4.5 Tyche is here

SparkyLinux is a lightweight, fast and simple Linux distribution designed for both old and new computers. It comes with a wide range of desktops: Budgie, Enlightenment, JWM, KDE Plasma, LXDE, LXQt, MATE, Openbox, Xfce and CLI, which means it supports command line management like any other Linux. The distribution uses LightDM as its desktop manager .

SparkyLinux is based on the Debian GNU/Linux testing release. The Debian Testing release includes all packages (programs) that are not yet considered stable enough and still need testing.

This version is not intended for use on servers or any computer providing critical services. However, many people use it because the programs it contains are more recent.

As you can see from the above, SparkyLinux is a rolling distribution that contains all the latest software packages and kernel. As a rolling distribution, there is no need to reinstall as it will update itself. So, unless the distribution presents some instability due to incorrect actions, usually by novice users, it will not need another installation, and will always be updated to the latest version.

The Polish developers of the project recently announced the new SparkyLinux 4.5 “Tyche” version, which is released in LXDE, LXQt, KDE, MATE and Xfce flavors.

The new release comes with Linux kernel 4.8.7 as default while 4.8.12-sparky is already available in the Sparky 'unstable' repo. Support for 'exfat' file systems has been added and it comes with updated applications: Firefox 45.5.0 ESR and Firefox 50.0.2 are available in the repos, Icedove 45.4 and Thunderbird 45.5.1 are available in the repos, along with LibreOffice 5.2.3-rc1.
