Stories from the ramparts: The customer is NOT always right!

We would not forget the tragic story from this week's ramparts, staying true to our appointment once again! Another story from the ramparts is added to the SecNews! So far we have witnessed stories with customers getting electrocuted by routers that were dropped into water, CD-DVD drives - coffee cases, floppy disks that save files in 2016, "gamer" managers, board members, who watch spicy movies and of course these are just the beginning!

We are also waiting for your stories, which will be posted in order of priority because we could not fit them all into one post!

Stories from the ramparts: The customer is NOT always right!

A while ago I was working as an IT support in a small company that had as its clients everything you can imagine. One of the clients was a 24-hour restaurant-cheese shop-pastry shop-burger shop that you could only eat at gunpoint. Of course, as a 24-hour shop, it also wanted 24-hour support, where of course the worst things happened at night. The phone rings and I hear the voice of the manager/employee/cleaner “The cash registers are not working”. So I start with the basics by asking if he is getting any error on the screen and he interrupts me by saying once again: “The cash registers are not working” – that is all I hear from the phone. Okay, I think and try to connect remotely. I ping the server in the shop – no response. So now I understand that something is wrong with the server. I tell him there is a problem with the server and I ask him if he knows where it is. He says "Yes" that's all "Yes". "Okay" I ask "can you go to the server?". Answer: "Do you want me to go to the server?". "Yes you should go to the server to check some things." Answer: "Yes but it's in the basement". "Yes right the server in the basement but you should go to check some things."

Ten minutes later, I convinced him to go to the basement. Then I started telling him exactly what the server, what it could be, etc. and he answered OK. I wait. I understand that he is still looking, after 2-3 minutes I ask him if he has found the server. The guy is completely playing around: “Really? Who is it?” I think he is kidding me now. I am the same poor guy who has been talking to you for half an hour! I explain to him who I am and that he has called me to help him with the cash registers and finally I ask him: “Did you find the server?” and what he answers me: “Uh, the server is in the basement”.

Half an hour later, he still hadn't found the server. He might not have even gone down to the basement. The cash registers are still not working and I still have no response from the other end of the phone. After 5 minutes of him not answering the continuous "Yes? Is anyone listening?" I hung up.

And for those interested, I currently work as a street cleaner and I'm a happy person!
