Ubuntu and Debian developer Iain Lane has informed the Ubuntu community that the upcoming Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak has entered a Feature Freeze stage as of August 18, 2016.
The Feature Freeze development stage means that no new features will be added to the upcoming operating system, and the development team will focus on fixing bugs and improving performance before the official release of the final version of Ubuntu Yakkety Yak, scheduled for October 13, 2016.
The first Beta version of Ubuntu 16.10 will be released next Thursday, August 25, but will only be available in the Ubuntu MATE, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu GNOME, and Xubuntu flavors.
A second and final Beta will follow. The final version of Ubuntu Yakkety Yak as mentioned above will be released on October 13, 2016.
