Furniture has largely avoided the smart home revolution, but it seems their time has come. Or, to be precise, Ori . Ori Systems' robotic furniture is coming, and it looks like it's a great idea, especially for those looking to save space in an apartment or small house.
Designer Yves Behar collaborated with Ori Systemsto create a series of architectural robotic units that can be used as furniture in your home.
Ori uses a spinal electromechanical system to provide full-scale bedrooms, living rooms, and offices in a single unit. From a fold‑out bed to a desk with adjustable shelves and cabinets, the Ori system (derived from origami) lets you gain extra space in your living room at the press of a button (or by using the app).
The company has not disclosed the prices of Ori Systems, but we know that the first units will be released in early 2017, with a pilot program that will follow.
