Sundar Pichai didn't have a great start to his week. The Google CEO appears to have been hit by a group called OurMine, which allegedly hacked both Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's Twitter and Pinterest accounts earlier this month.
So hackers (three people) compromised Sundar Pichai's Quora account, which was also connected to his Twitter account.
The OurMine team immediately after the hack began publicizing the breach to the Google CEO's 508,000 followers. The tweets have now been deleted, but a screenshot exists.
The OurMine group targets high-profile tech executives, including Spotify's Daniel Ek. It's unclear how they gain access to the accounts, but it appears they're not hacking into social networks, just the accounts they're targeting.
The group claims to use various exploits to steal passwords from their victims' browsers.
OurMine reportedly calls itself a “security company” and offers its support to those it targets to prevent something like this from happening again. Of course, it’s not the best way to gain the trust of your customers, but the OurMine team seems to consider it very entrepreneurial.
In a statement to TNW, they said:
“We do security testing (sic), and we never change their passwords. We did this because no other hackers can hack and change everything.”
The group also noted that it managed to hack Sundar Pichai's account with an exploit on the Quora platform – one that they claim to have reported to the company, and it has not been interested.
Of course, if you use Quora, change your password immediately and make sure you don't use the same one on other services.
