Google Daydream: After its first cardboard “device,” which has 50 million app installs, Google is accelerating the development of VR.
Noting that Cardboard is a bit limited, Google introduced a new platform called Daydream that focuses on a better VR experience on Android.
Google Daydream currently has a reference design for a standalone device and remote. The device, as you can see in the drawing above, will look a lot like the Oculus, while the remote resembles an Apple TV remote.
Google also says the standalone device will be released this fall.
The company says the device won't just be for gaming, but will also allow you to watch shows from HBO and Netflix (among others). With the upcoming Android N and VR Mode, everything seems easier.
And yes, YouTube will also be available in VR.
We won't see it until the fall, but with Daydream it looks like the mobile VR platform is going to get more traction. Developers can start developing apps for Daydream starting today.
