SkinTrack: Have you ever tried to operate a smartwatch from its tiny touch screen? The latest technology devices from Apple, Samsung and others have a very small touch interface that makes management difficult.
A research team from the Future Interfaces Group, a research lab at Carnegie Mellon University, today released a new potential solution to this problem. It's called SkinTrack. The researchers propose turning your skin into a "touchscreen."
The system operates using a ring that emits a signal and is worn on the finger of the hand that does not wear the watch, and through a band with sensors connects to the SmartWatch. When the finger touches your skin, it sends a high‑frequency signal that expands the width (and length) of your forearm. From there, the sensor accurately calculates the distances between it and the finger with the ring.
Thus if you write an «E» on your skin, for example, you could possibly open your incoming e‑mail.
SkinTrack will probably not be seen released soon on the market, but it will certainly give manufacturers new ideas.
