Twitter blocks 125,000 accounts linked to terrorism

Twitter announced today that it has closed over 125,000 accounts that were used for threats or terrorist activity by ISIS.

“Like most people around the world, we are shocked by the atrocities committed by extremist groups. We condemn the use of Twitter to promote terrorism, and Twitter’s rules make it clear that this type of behavior, or any violent threat, is not allowed on our service,” Twitter said in a blog post.

The effort by Twitter's security team comes after Telegram announced that it had blocked 78 channels that had been involved in ISIS activities.

Twitter, for its part, said today that it has expanded its monitoring teams that will review user reports of terrorism-related activity.
