Facebook has just released a new mobile app that uses Apple's platform (iOS). The app is called Facebook Notify and promises to deliver instant notifications “for the things that matter to you, from the source you love, all in one place.”
Thus, by using the app you will be able to receive notifications on your smartphone from the sources you like most and the categories you desire.
For example, you will be able to get immediate results of foreign sports matches from Fox Sports, or the daily weather forecast from the Weather Channel.
News notifications, with CNN's Breaking News and Fox News' Top Stories, will provide you with immediate information the moment the event is announced for the first time.
The new application, for those who didn't understand, is an attempt by Facebook to invade the media space, the way Twitter did.
It is known that Twitter releases news instantly as it happens.
The Facebook news app is said to still be in an experimental stage, as it is available only in the US and will provide notifications only from the few news agencies it is currently working with. However, sources say that the app will also provide notifications based on your Facebook profile.
All shares will be delivered directly to the lock screen, and thus a quick glance will allow you to know what's happening.
As you understood, the largest social network does not want us to take our eyes off the phone…
As for the new app, according to Facebook, Notify for iOS is available from today, only in the USA. The company did not mention whether it will be released worldwide, or if a version for Android devices will be released soon.
