A strange new emoji has appeared with the latest iOS 9.1 that looks like an eye. Behind it is an effort to combat bullying.
The new emoji, launched during National Bullying Prevention Month , will be used on iOS and other popular services like Snapchat and Kik.
To help prevent online abuse and harassment, this emoji is intended to be used as a subtle reminder and to scare people that the actions of those who bully do not go unnoticed. Anyone who uses the new eye emoji is saying that they are a witness to harassment. It is an indirect way for someone to send a message without words, about something they saw. As you know, words can sometimes scare or frighten, so a symbol can solve the language.
“All teens are affected by bullying and often feel helpless when they witness it. Emojis have become a second language for teens, and provide a relevant and easy way for them to participate,” says Lisa Sherman, President and CEO of the Ad Council.
There is also an interactive campaign on Tumblr that helps users understand and participate in bullying prevention. Without using a single word or phrase, they can say a lot.
