Microsoft today released Skype with automatic translator. Live translation is currently available for six languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Chinese). As you know, the app also supports 50 messaging languages.
The application was released as a preview in December 2014. Since then, the new Skype has been making minor changes to the service based on feedback from users who were testing the new service.
The translator recognizes speech by comparing it to millions of audio clips. It then corrects any common expressions and translates them into the language you have chosen. The translations appear in writing on the screen as subtitles, but are also heard through your computer speakers.
The developers of the new service say that the more the application is used, the better the translation will be, as the new Skype is developed to learn.
If you're interested in the feature, starting today, Skype Translator is available to all users of computers or tablets running Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Windows 10.
The company did not say anything specific about when the new feature will be available on Mac systems or mobile platforms.
