Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 10 IoT. The operating system is a miniature version of Windows 10 for devices designed to connect to the Internet. It is also quite friendly for hardware like the Raspberry Pi 2 and the MinnowBoard Max.
The preview of the mini operating system is available for free. Windows 10 for IoT was first unveiled in late April at Microsoft's Build developer conference.
Since then, the company has beefed them up with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, and improved GPIO performance for the Raspberry Pi 2, as Steve Teixeira, program management director for the Internet of Things in Microsoft's Operating Systems Group, said in a blog post.
Windows 10 IoT Core is one of the seven editions of Windows 10, along with Home, Pro, Mobile, Education, and others.
To use this version of Windows for the Internet of Things (IoT), you will need a separate computer running the July 29th version of Windows, also known as build 10240, as well as Visual Studio 2015.
You can download the operating system from here.
