The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) of the USA filed an injunction against scammers promoting diet pills over the Internet.
The “Com spammers”, as they are called, have been sending massive volumes of e-mail and SMS spam for many years. The same group advertises their products on Pinterest and other social networks.
The complaint by the FTC was filed against the company Sale Slash, which is based in Glendale, California. The company, in collaboration with “fake news websites”, made false claims about weight loss, and with the promotion of celebrities who have not given their permission (one of them was the TV personality Oprah Winfrey), and spam e‑mail promoted dietary supplements and weight‑loss drugs.
The complaint was followed by a court order against the defendants that froze their assets, as reported by the FTC.
The FTC complaint states that the company Sale Slash violated the FTC law and the CAN‑SPAM Act by conducting spamvertising for various products purported to aid weight loss. These include: “Premium Green Coffee, Pure Garcinia Cambogia, Premium White Kidney Bean Extract, Pure Forskolin Extract, and Pure Caralluma Fimbriata Extract”.
The research on the messages was carried out by the company Cloudmark, which helped the Federal Trade Commission discover the scammers operating from the United States.
The fake news sites that were used to promote the scammers' plausible campaigns “appear to have been written by an English speaker.”
The FTC claims it has identified the person responsible for this entire fraud, which has generated huge revenues for all involved.
