Several publications from “authoritative” websites report and warn about a new virus that is making waves on Facebook. The issue, according to the authoritative websites, protectors of the Greek online public, is so serious that a global alarm has been declared..
The virus announcement titles are catchy enough to collect clicks, but the news is somewhat altered to suit them. “A new computer virus is spreading on Facebook” and for something even more dramatic “Global alarm for the new virus that hit Facebook” …. Global alarm…
But let's see what happened.
Yesterday, the British newspaper Daily Mailreported a bug in the social network.
The website stated:
An unknown bug in Facebook is preventing links to millions of news stories from appearing on the site. Many posts are disappearing for "violating security policies," according to Facebook.
So, according to online experts in the Greek journalistic scene, the above news turned into “Global alarm about the new virus that hit Facebook.”
The headlines that appeared on Greek sites, of course, have nothing to do with the real news. Trying to be somewhat more flexible in our judgment of the Greek expert protectors of the Greek online scene, they could have “confused” the bug with the virus.
But either way, the result is the same. The internet was shaken up by a publication that is not true. Another hoax spread through "journalistic" channels.
So be careful of your “protectors.” We highly doubt whether they can protect themselves, or whether their motivation for being half-educated may only be to collect clicks for their websites.
Maybe they confused April Fool's Day with May Day again... who knows..
