The European Space Expo, one of the most important international exhibitions, is coming to Greece for the first time, from March 28 to April 5, 2015, in a specially designed white dome at Syntagma Square. si-Cluster, the Greek cooperative formation of space technologies and applications, under the coordination of Corallia, supports and actively participates as a sponsor in the exhibition, which will be a point of reference for the sector in our country.
As a sponsor of the European Space Expo, the companies and research and academic institutions of si-Cluster will highlight space technology projects and applications that are already implemented and operating in Greece and that create significant benefits at the local and national level. These applications concern a wide range of thematic areas, such as environmental monitoring of land and sea areas, precision agriculture, natural disaster management, fire risk identification, siting of special facilities (e.g. landfills, KEL), etc. At the same time, they will highlight the opportunities created for Greece in global markets, which can enhance the employment of Greek scientists in a highly specialized and exciting sector, but also stimulate the overall economic development of the country.
As part of the European Space Expo, si-Cluster will organize a series of free events. Admission to the exhibition is free for the public, with opening hours as follows: Monday – Thursday: 09:00 – 20:00, Friday – Saturday: 10:00 – 21:00, Sunday: 10:00 – 20:00.
Athens is the 24th stop of the European Space Expo tour. Visitors will have the opportunity, through an interactive experience, to get to know the wide range of space technologies and applications, as well as to attend relevant presentations by experts and to learn about the benefits that Greece can derive from free and open data and from European space programs. In parallel with the actions of si-Cluster, during the exhibition, the European space satellite navigation programs, Galileo and EGNOS, as well as the Earth observation program, Copernicus, will be presented, among others. These programs are expected to create opportunities in the global market, contribute to supporting job creation, and also to the economic development of Europe.
The exhibition is organised by the European Commission in major European cities, with the aim of informing citizens about the benefits and applications of European space programmes in their daily lives. The number of European citizens who have visited it to date has exceeded 500,000.
