Lenovo made $250,000 installing Superfish

The company was caught red-handed last month harvesting user data by installing adware on its systems, sparking outrage from security researchers and the users themselves.

Forbes reports that Lenovo earned between $200,000 and $250,000 from the Superfish pre-installation deal, a paltry sum considering the company's net profit from the US alone was $253 million in the last three months of 2014.

Lenovo initially defended the installation of the adware by stating that it was a useful tool for online shopping, but its senior executives quickly began sending apologetic statements to the media.

The company developed Superfish removal software, and promised to never install bloatware again, while also offering free six-month subscriptions to McAfee Antivirus.

The Mozilla Foundation, meanwhile, has decided to move aggressively where it encounters the malicious Superfish. The Firefox development foundation will block self-signed Superfish certificates from an upcoming version of the browser, El Reg reports.

The war against Superfish and Lenovo seems to have taken on an avalanche after Jessica Bennett from California recently filed a lawsuit against Lenovo for the Superfish that was installed on her laptop.

Imagine what would happen if everyone did the same, and all for $250,000.
