The case of extortion and defamatory libel via Internet, with a 44-year-old domestic victim, was investigated by the Cybercrime Directorate
A criminal case was filed against a 48-year-old Greek national, who, using a pseudonym on a social networking site, blackmailed the 44-year-old woman, demanding the sum of 5,000 euros 
From the Cybercrime Division of the Hellenic Police, a case of extortion and defamatory slander via the internet was investigated, with a 44-year-old domestic victim. For this case, a procedural file was opened against a 48-year-old domestic suspect.
Specifically, the investigation into the case began after a complaint by the 44-year-old, according to which she was receiving numerous calls on her mobile phone from unknown individuals, who told her that they had found her phone number in erotic advertisements, which they located on specific websites on the Internet.
The 44-year-old confirmed the posted ads with her photo and mobile phone number, as well as a text urging users to contact her by phone in order to meet her, presenting her as a prostitute.
Simultaneously, as she herself reported, an unknown user of this social networking site, using a profile with a pseudonym, was sending her extortionate messages, demanding that she deliver to him at a specific location and inside a folder the sum of (5.000) euros, in order that he would not post her erotic video on the Internet.
The Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office was informed of the above and an order was issued to conduct a preliminary examination.
In the context of the methodical and thorough investigation and digital analysis of the case data, by police officers of the Cybercrime Investigation Unit, it was found that the electronic traces of the administrator of the profile in question on the social networking website, as well as the electronic traces of the user who posted one of the advertisements in question, correspond to the above 48-year-old Greek national.
In the early hours of today (15.01.2015), a police team conducted a formal search of his home in Nea Filadelfia, Attica. From the on-site examination of his computer, it was determined that he was involved in the case and that he was the administrator of the controversial profile on the social networking website.
During the investigation, one (1) laptop computer and one (1) external hard drive were found and seized, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for the necessary laboratory tests.
The case file that was formed will be submitted to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office, while the investigation continues into the 44-year-old's possible involvement in other similar cases.
