One of the first things you do after installing Windows on a computer you plan to use is to install VLC Media Player, SMPlayer, or BSPlayer so you can have support for all kinds of Media files.
Windows Media Player is a pretty good program, but it doesn't support all file types, like MKV, FLAC or flv for example.
MKV and FLAC files are the file formats used by many music lovers and image enthusiasts who dislike mediocrity, such as mp3 files and their compression.
In any case, it seems that Microsoft intends to change this in future versions of Windows which, in addition to a new design and the new start menu, will also support MKV and FLAC files.
According to Gabriel Aul, head of Microsoft's Data & Fundamentals team, support for FLAC files is coming with Windows 10.
Grabriel posted a screenshot of the new Windows Media Player on his Twitter account.
If you look closely, you'll notice that all the media files in the image are FLAC files. This confirms that Microsoft is working on native FLAC support in the Windows 10 operating system.
The company confirmed earlier this month that it will also support MKV files on Windows 10 and that the operating system will support these file formats natively.
Also quite important is the HEVC support that the company itself announced.
What does this mean?
It means that Windows 10 will support various media formats by default, something that previous versions of Windows did not support.
Windows Media Player will be used more, but third-party programs will also benefit from this since they will not need to install codecs.
Support for FLV files has not been announced at this time.
All of this is a sign that Microsoft is willing to abandon its old path and bring “new things” to its customers. Of course, even these small steps are welcomed by users who use these formats and Windows Media Player.
