Google has officially unveiled the new version of its Android operating system, called Android Lollipop
The company is calling it the biggest and most ambitious release of Android yet. As noted in a related announcement, Lollipop is designed to be flexible, work on all users' devices, and be customized as they wish.
“Lollipop is built for a world where moving throughout the day means interacting with a range of different screens – from phones and tablets to TVs. With more devices working together, your expectation is that things just work. With Lollipop it’s easier than ever to pick up where you left off, so songs, photos, apps and even recent searches from one of your Android devices can be instantly played on all of your others,” it says.
In order for the transition experience to remain the same, Lollipop has a “consistent” design, an approach called Material Design, so that the material interacts with touch and voice more “naturally” and smoothly. At the same time, the company emphasizes that the new operating system provides increased control over the device, allowing settings so that specific people and updates “pass through”, for example, when someone is in the middle of a meeting or some other important activity - and when an important update appears, it is immediately displayed on the lockscreen. There is also a new battery saving feature that extends the “life” of a device by up to 90 minutes, while Google has “endowed” the operating system with the ability to create multiple user accounts and guest user mode. It is also possible to secure the device via PIN, password, pattern or “pairing” the phone with a “trusted” device (such as a watch or car with Smart Lock).
The company didn't stop at Lollipop, but also introduced a series of new devices, such as the new Nexus 6 smartphone (aluminum cover, 6-inch Quad HD display, 13-megapixel camera, accompanied by Turbo Charger for six hours of use with just 15 minutes of charging), the Nexus 9 tablet (8.9-inch display, additional folding keyboard) and the Nexus Player, a streaming media player for movies, music and videos (Android TV) while also acting as an Android gaming device. The devices will be available for pre-order from October 17 (Nexus 9, Nexus Player) and the end of the month (Nexus 6). As for the use of Android 5.0 Lollipop, it is found on the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and will also be available on Nexus 4,5,7,10 and Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks.
