Research conducted by Kaspersky Lab and B2B International reveals that the biggest concerns of Internet users are protecting their privacy and identity, safeguarding their personal data, protecting their money and keeping their children safe. Furthermore, 79% of Europeans use devices with different platforms and require security solutions for multiple systems, especially considering the continuous increase in online threats.

According to Kaspersky Lab, nearly 315,000 new malware samples appear every day. No operating system can be considered safe, as the days when attackers focused almost exclusively on Windows are long gone, with attacks on Mac computers and mobile operating systems on the rise. After the discovery of the Flashback botnet, which included over 700,000 computers running OS X, Apple users can no longer claim that this operating system is completely safe.

Following the global trend of mobile solutions, the number of malware targeting the most popular mobile operating system, Android, continues to grow rapidly, with Kaspersky Lab detecting around 20,000 new samples every month. Phishing websites (fake pages designed to steal personal information) are a universal digital threat that poses a risk to all users, regardless of the device or operating system they use. Every month, Kaspersky Security Network records over 137,000 new phishing pages that aim to trick users into revealing sensitive personal and financial data.

In a world where online threats are constantly evolving, there is a need for reliable security software, capable of providing complete protection against digital threats on every device used for communication, online shopping and banking. With the aim of ensuring the complete security of users' data, protecting their privacy and financial transactions, as well as the online safety of children, Kaspersky Lab is constantly updating and improving the functions and technologies of its security solutions.

The latest versions of Kaspersky Lab incorporate several completely new technologies, which improve the level of protection against malicious encryption software, prevent the webcam , and shield devices against the risks posed by vulnerable Wi-Fi.

Webcam Protection :

Webcam hacking or webcam image monitoring is a way of using malicious online spyware. Many users do not pay much attention to what can be recorded on their webcam , even though the camera could capture images of documents containing bank details, credit card details or simply information about their personal activities that they would not want to expose to strangers. To ensure that users are not being observed without their knowledge or consent, Kaspersky Lab has developed the Webcam Protection feature. This feature monitors applications that try to connect to the webcam, warns the user about access attempts and – if necessary – blocks access to the webcam 1 .

System Watcher:

One of the most serious threats to users’ documents, photos and music files comes from so-called cryptomalware, i.e. malicious software that encrypts files and demands a ransom to allow users to regain access to them. Once the data has been encrypted, access to it cannot be restored, even if the malware is removed. For this reason, Kaspersky Lab has developed a method for regaining access to data without paying a ransom. The System Watcher function analyzes all processes running in the operating system, and now has new data backup functions. When System Watcher detects a suspicious program trying to modify a user’s file, it immediately creates a local copy of the file, free from any external changes. If further monitoring of the system shows that the program that changed the file was malicious, then all changes will be undone1.

Wi-Fi security alerts:

In the hands of criminals, public wireless networks can easily become another tool for hacking into user data. That is why Kaspersky Lab has introduced the Wi-Fi Security Notification feature in the new version of Kaspersky Internet Security. This feature checks the security of Wi-Fi hotspots and warns the user about any potential threats, such as a vulnerable network connection or the transmission of an unsecured password over the Internet. Users also receive tips and recommendations for the correct and secure setup of home Wi-Fi networks1.

In addition to the above new features, Kaspersky Internet Security – Multi-Device 2015 includes a number of additional improvements:

  • Automatic updates and upgrades as soon as a newer version is released: With this innovation, users will always have the latest and most reliable version of the product, without having to bother to download and install it1
  • Safe Money enhancements to protect financial transactions at every stage: Safe Money now also blocks third-party applications that attempt to access a user’s browser, which may temporarily contain confidential data (e.g. login details). Safe Money continues to offer protection against screen-capture tools, malicious browser extensions and other money-stealing tactics used by cybercriminals1
  • For users of paid Wi-Fi and 3G or LTE connections, the solution now includes Cost-Aware Networking, which reduces the amount of data transmitted by the product over the network2
  • The anti-phishing feature, which helps users avoid unwanted and malicious websites, has been enhanced with text, image, and link analysis technology, allowing it to detect fake websites designed to steal money and sensitive information faster and more accurately.
  • The main menu and interface have been unified across all products, allowing users to navigate the applications easily, regardless of operating system or product version. Special attention paid to resource consumption has helped improve the effectiveness of security tools, ensuring that operating system performance is not affected.

“Today, people rarely access the Internet from just one device. Therefore, they should be aware of all kinds of online threats and ways to combat them. Kaspersky Lab has developed a cross-platform solution that allows the user to easily manage security products on Windows, OS X and Android devices with a single license. The effectiveness of the technologies incorporated in Kaspersky Internet Security – Multi-Device 2015 has been proven not only in independent tests, but also in practice, providing security to 300 million users around the world every day,” said Nikita Shvetsov, CTO of Kaspersky Lab.
